Google will move to google analytics 4 by 1st July 2023. So it means that Universal Analytics is soon at its end. So make sure to carefully migrate data to avoid harm or loss.
The GA4 will bring a great change allowing users to measure different kinds of data from Web apps, iOS apps, and Andriod apps.
Furthermore, businesses can automate the process of identifying user journeys on their websites, gain new insights using machine learning technology, and improve marketing ROI through GA4.
So our suggestion is to migrate to GA4 as soon as possible to keep your data safe. Once Universal Analytics will be out you will not be able to collect the data any longer.
So without waiting further time let’s move towards The essential steps you need to take:
Steps to migrate to GA4:
So here are the 3 steps to migrating to GA4
-
Create your GA4 property and launch it:
It’s very important to create a new property and launch it as soon as possible.
Due to the fact that properties won’t import historical data from UA, they will only begin tracking traffic data when they are created.
So create it soon in this way you will have data in the GA4 property.
The first step is to create a GA4 property.
Go to the Account column then to Property and easily make your new property. Then choose a name, after this select the currency and reporting time zone.
Then choose the category of industry and the size of the business. Now the creation process of the GA4 property is done.
-
Make a list of key items:
In the new GA4 properties, No tracking items are inherited by new analytics properties. Here’s the list of common tracking items.
- Goals
- Events
- Referral exclusions
- Product link connections
- Content groupings
- Audiences
When the list is done go through it and make changes according to your need. Create a goal in each reporting view. GA4 is not used with reporting views. If you wish to preserve all the goals you have in multiple reporting views for the same UA property, then you’ll need to list all of them and recreate them in the GA4 property.
There are 20 goals per reporting view in universal analytics and there are 30 conversions per property in GA4.
-
migrate individual items to GA4:
So here are the tips to set some items in migrating to GA4.
GOALS:
Now the goals are also known as conversions. And remember goals are event-based.
Start with the event-based goals. Because it is the same as in universal analytics.
Set up events and label them as conversions in GA4. it’s important, to begin with, goals that are destination and event-based.
Previously Destination-based goals can also be added via code.
For Previously engagement-based goals first make a GA4 audience. And then use that audience to recreate them.
EVENTS:
The events are the same as the universal setup. But first set up the tagging.
Now events are automatically added in the GA4. Don’t create the events that are already created. You can see them under the configuration in the navigation.
Product Link Extensions
It’s important to reconnect the product links to the GA4 property. It’s not necessary to remove the product links existing in UA to connect with GA4. It is viewed at the top. So connect your all Google product links to Google Analytics 4 property.
Content Groupings
In GA4 content groups are made with the help of page tagging. There is no concept of interface setup in GA4. but in UA you created the content grouping in the interface.
However, it’s a good change but it needs time and investment also.
There can be many “gtags” on a page and simply apply these with google tag manager.
Referral Exclusions
Referral exclusions are also in GA4. but you will not find it in the top navigation levels. It is now moved down and renamed.
To add them under the admin menu select data streams first and then the URL of your site data stream and then choose the more tagging settings. Then in the last click configure domains and enter your domain.
Audiences
Google Analytics audiences are great for advertising. Set your audiences before the date of 1st July 2023. In this way, you will easily update your Google ads campaigns with similar audience lists.
The audiences in the GA4 need to be recreated that have google analytics as the audience type. So first focus on the audiences in UA and then look to recreate them in the GA4.
WRAP UP!
