STEP 1:

Choosing the right seed:

The first and the important step is choosing the right seeds. As there are over 100 established varieties of cherry tomatoes and each one has different characteristics and a unique flavor. Look for fresh, high-quality, and disease-resistant varieties that produce healthy plants.

STEP 2:

Starting cherry tomato seeds: Indoors vs. outdoors

After choosing your seed the next process is to start them. Now depending on the climate, you can plant it indoors or outdoors. There are 2 conditions you have to keep in mind. If you live in a cooler environment then start the seed indoors for about six weeks before the last frost date. But if you live in a warmer environment then you can start the seed directly in the soil.

If you’re thinking to do it indoors, then take a container filled with seed-starting mix. Do one hole in the soil and place the seed in it now cover it with soil. water the soil and cover it with a lid to keep it moist. Now place the tray in a warm and bright area.

STEP 3:

Transplanting seedlings ( Tips for success):

Once the seedlings grow from one to two sets of leaves, It’s time to transplant them into the garden or in large pots. Choose a sunny location to transplant the seedlings. At least 6 hours of sunlight per day is mandatory for cherry tomatoes to grow. Poke a tiny hole in the soil and remove the seedlings from their container. Place the seedling in the hole and cover it with soil. After a transplant, water the seedling thoroughly and continue to water them regularly.

STEP 4:

Caring for tomato plant

One of the key ingredients to growing plants is to fertilize them. Proper nutrients are important for plant growth. Apply the first fertilizer treatment, within 2 weeks of transplanting.

Use high-phosphorous fertilizer

Or you can follow the instructions on the fertilizer package. As overdose can also damage the plants.

Be Alert! Keep a strict eye on your plant and take sudden action if you see any sign of trouble. Don’t use harmful chemicals they will destroy your plant. Pest control should be a priority in your cherry tomato garden. The worst tomato pests are aphids, cutworms, flea beetles, and hornworms. You can also use natural spray, sticky traps, or insecticides ( contain ingredients like pyrethrin) can be use to control the disease.

STEP 6:

Training of plant:

Cherry tomato plant requires support from a trellis, stake, or cage. You can start to train your plants one month after transplanting. Tie the stem with a support device and it should be a loose knot so that it will not damage the stem.  In this way, you can train the plant and prevent them from falling over

STEP 7:

Harvesting cherry tomatoes

After planting cherry tomatoes start producing fruit within 60-80 days and the interesting part is they continue to produce fruit all season. When a cherry tomato turns its color vibrant and red, pink, or yellow it means that your tomatoes are ready to harvest. It should be slightly soft when squeezed. To pick the tomato, hold it near the stem and twist the cherry tomato off the stem and make sure not to damage the plant. It can be used in various ways like adding it to your salads, salsa, and pasta dishes. Cherry tomatoes can be eaten preserved, fresh, or cooked, it’s up to you.
